Everybody knows what is a dragon: enormous, wild, bloodthirsty one creature appearing in fairy tales and legends as accessory the main function of which is to activate knight's courage to fight it. The dragon is a dark and mysterious character, described in a general way, and is a little more than the simple fact to activate and to strengthen heroes' value.
The dragon is a legendary creature in the folklore of many European and Asian cultures. The legends describe dragons as big, looking like reptilian's creatures which spit the fire and having a long scales tail. In Europe, dragons are traditionally represented as wild animals which represent the evil fought by humans. But in Asia, particularly in China and in Japan, these animals are generally considered as friendly creatures which assure good luck and wealth.
According to some medieval legends, dragons lived in wild and remote regions of the world. Dragons guard treasures in their dens and a person who would kill one, would gain its wealth. The English epic hero Beowulf died in a fight with a dragon guard of treasures.
In China, the traditional day parade of the new year includes a group of persons who dance in the street wearing a big dragon's costume. Dragon's image, according to an antique Chinese faith, would prevent ghost from spoiling the new year. Another traditional Chinese faith is that certain dragons have the power to control the necessary precipitation for the harvest of every year.
However, dragon is other thing. It is an admirable, intelligent and educated creature, which lives a life of the most interesting. It has certain fascinating characteristics besides these occasional outlines which give us fairy tales and legends.
In the world of the fantastic animals, dragon is unique. No other creature appeared in a variety so rich in forms. It is as if there was in the past a whole family of sorts different from dragons which really existed before they mysteriously disappeared. Indeed, so recently as the seventeenth century, the scholars wrote on dragons as if they were scientific realities, their anatomy and their natural history being registered in careful details.
The naturalist Edward Topsell, for example, writing in 1608, considered them as reptilians beings and strictly bound to snakes: "It diverse there sorts of dragons, distinguished partially by the country, partially by their quantity and the size and partially by the various forms of their external members." Personification of the wickedness or the kindness, the paganism or the purity, the death or the devastation, the life and the fertility, the good or the evil ; all this variety, these contradictory concepts are incorporated and embeded in this simple magic word.
The dragon was always libelled and badly judged, persecuted and pursued by the man, simply because it is different. As so many other humans, it felt death and persecution in the name of claimed superiority of the civilized man.
Maybe, in the future, the man will learn that the death of a simple animal or a species of plant is the irreplaceable property - something more precious than all the wealth in the world - is destroyed. So only then the Earth will continue to be a brilliant blue jewel in the universe, because in its heart will be locked the priceless treasure of the variety of the species and the man will have recognized his duty to love each of them.
But a new Air arrived at the XXIth century with AirMaster's dragon, the unique survivor of the conquerors' race . What we named "AIR DRAGON"; much more than a name or a brand, it is a Culture, Traditions and a Lifestyle …
